comparing candidate websites

I’ve been looking at the websites of the three main candidates, Clinton, Obama, and McCain, to see if I could spot any revolutionary technological strategies… But I don’t think I would recognise one even if I saw any! So, having browsed the internet to see what the general view is, I found that the Obama website seems to be getting the best reviews, and after looking at it more closely I’d probably agree with that (it looks very ‘futuristic’ and clean compared to the others). Considering how successful his online campaign has been so far and his huge following on the internet, I suppose this result isn’t very surprising. I found the below table of top presidential candidate websites which shows how far ahead of everyone else he seems to be: http://www.hitwise.com/political-data-center/key-candidates.php .

This article also talks about how the Obama site has been one of the most effective in using new tech strategies to mobilise support: http://www.wired.com/politics/law/news/2008/02/potomac_primaries  For instance, it mentions that an online phone-banking tool was used to organise thousands of volunteers to make phone calls to get the vote out. This tactic was successful as it helped Obama win 54% of the Hispanic vote which Clinton has been campaigning for. It’s interesting and worth taking a look at.

Finally, this blog post contains a comparison of candidate website designs – again the Obama site seems to be the favourite, but the author makes some interesting points about the similarities and the ‘mistakes’ from a design perspective. You might want to take a look at http://dustinbrewer.com/presidential-candidate-web-design-review/ .

 Bye for now!
